Getting started
How Hum works
Hum plays six stations of original instrumental music, grouped by mood: Sleep, Focus and Calm. Pick a station and Hum shuffles through its tracks endlessly, crossfading from one into the next, so the music never stops and every track plays before any repeats.
The stations
- Sleep: Nightfall (felt piano for falling asleep) and Deep Drift (weightless drones for deep sleep)
- Focus: Lo-fi Study (dusty beats to settle into work) and Deep Work (hypnotic pulses for flow)
- Calm: Slow Morning (warm acoustics for an easy start) and Blue Hour (late-night jazz, softly played)
Hum: Sleep, Focus & Lofi Music is coming soon to the App Store.
Requirements
- iPhone with iOS 26 or later (not optimized for iPad)
Using Hum
Sleep timer
Set a timer for as long as you want the music to play. As it runs out, Hum fades the volume out over about a minute instead of stopping abruptly, so you are not jolted awake.
Favorites
Tap the heart on any track to save it to Favorites, then tap Shuffle Favorites to play everything you love from every station. Favorites are stored on your iPhone.
Offline playback
Every track is built into the app, so all six stations play fully offline: no downloads, no Wi-Fi and no cellular data needed.
Lock screen, Control Center and AirPlay
Hum keeps playing when you lock your iPhone or switch apps. Play, pause, skip and favorite from the lock screen, Control Center and AirPods, and send playback to AirPlay speakers. The sleep timer is set in the app. Playback pauses for a phone call or when Bluetooth headphones disconnect; resume it from the app or the lock screen.
Hum+ and purchases
Free listening
Hum is free to download, and every station and feature is free for up to 90 minutes of listening a day, resetting at midnight local time. No account or sign-in is needed.
Hum+
Hum+ removes the daily limit so the music can play all night. Prices are in US dollars and vary by country or region.
- Hum+ Monthly: $4.99 a month, renews automatically unless canceled
- Hum+ Yearly: $50.99 a year, about 15% less than paying monthly, renews automatically unless canceled
- Both plans start with a 1-week free trial for eligible new subscribers
Subscribe
When you reach the daily limit, or from Settings in the app, choose a plan and start the free trial. Nothing is charged for 1 week. After that, the plan you chose renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Cancel the subscription
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
- Choose Hum, then tap Cancel Subscription.
- Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the current period ends to avoid the next charge.
Restore a purchase
On a new iPhone, or after reinstalling, open Settings in Hum and tap Restore Purchases while signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.
Refunds
Apple processes every purchase. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com (opens in a new tab) and sign in with your Apple Account.
Data and privacy
Hum collects no data. There is no account, no analytics and no ads. Your favorites and settings stay on your iPhone, and deleting the app deletes them. Details are in the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
No sound
- Check that a Focus or the side switch is not silencing media.
- Check the volume with the side buttons or in Control Center.
- With Bluetooth or AirPlay, check that your speaker or headphones are connected.
- Close Hum from the app switcher and open it again.
Playback stopped
Hum pauses during phone calls and when a Bluetooth audio device disconnects. Resume from the app or the lock screen controls.
Reached the daily limit
The free allowance is 90 minutes of listening a day and resets at midnight local time. Start Hum+ to remove the limit, or wait for the reset.
Hum+ is not active after subscribing
- Make sure you are signed in with the Apple Account you used to subscribe.
- Open Settings in Hum and tap Restore Purchases.
- In the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and check that Hum+ is listed.
- If it still is not active, email us.
The app is slow or closes
Install the latest version of Hum from the App Store, update iOS and restart your iPhone.
